The FREE, 4-day camp was held simultaneously at Yashoda Hospital – Malakpet, Yashoda Hospital – Secunderabad and Yashoda Hospital – Somajiguda from 20th May to 24th May. The camp was specifically aimed at students of 9th Std., stepping into 10th Std. this academic year (2013-14).

Selection of the students for the camp was based on the evaluation of their marks sheet and on an essay written by them on the topic “Why you want to be a part of the Young Doctors Camp”. This year, about 2500 entries were received out of which, 80 students were selected for the camp after an exhaustive selection process. Students who participated enthusiastically in this camp were not only from districts in AP like Khammam, Karimnagar, but were also from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Selected students were provided with a complete kit consisting of a bag, pen writing pads, including a doctor’s apron to give them a practical understanding of what it is really like to be in this field. They were introduced to the world of medicine that included hands-on experience on a range of medical fields.

All the aspiring little doctors were toured around the facility to make them aware of various medical departments such as Diagnostics, In-patient wards, Pharmacies, Out Patient (OP) departments, Diagnostic centre, Operation theatre, Nursing stations, etc...

All the students showed active interest, as the camp was structured in a manner where academic sessions were interspersed with both fun and academic activities. The camp also included interactive academic sessions such as, group work, classroom sessions that included surgery videos and lectures from prominent doctors and quizzes.
